Uncluttered Shelving

Maximize your space and create clean lines by uncluttering your bookshelves. Stacking books one on top of the other, as opposed to lining them upright next to each other, creates easy-on-the-eye little bundles.
Group books in relevant stacks; like colour, book size or topic.  Stick with stacks of 5-7 depending on the thickness of the books.
To add some interest to your shelves place some statues, bowls, vases or ornate wooden boxes inbetween your stacks.
It's a lot easier to access your books once they are uncluttered, your shelving is looks alot bigger and tidier. You will relish in the results.

To make the contents of your shelving pop a little more, consider painting the inside of your shelving unit in a contrastiing colour. This has an amazing effect - your shelving unit will appear deeper and bigger.

Where It All Began

A friend asked me the other day when my passion for interiors, design and styling began. So I decided to share with you all too.
It was many years ago (12 to be exact) and I was working at The Conde Nast Publications namely VOGUE Australia, VOGUE Living and VOGUE Entertaining & Travel magazines in the advertising department.
Not only was I fortunate enough to work with extremely talented professionals, but I was surrounded by beautiful, fabulous design. Our office was styled impeccably by industry leaders and decked out in the latest interior products by some of the best companies in the country. Who wouldn't love that?
VOGUE Living was my favourite publication and it triggered a spark somewhere deep inside me; I was hooked on all things beautiful. Textiles, furniture, flooring, even gorgeous cutlery has me swooning.
Since then, becoming qualified in design and styling and flipping through every design and interiors magazines under the sun, VOGUE Living still stands strong as my beacon of inspiration.

The latest issue of VOGUE Living.
Here’s a fave issue from my back-catalogue (Oct/Nov 2001) including a photo-shoot of our office make-over. Who wouldn't be inspired working in this divine setting?

The reception desk, top left, made for a beautifully welcoming reception. The meeting room, top right, doubled as a function room on the odd occasion.

The front of the building, top, was repainted in a chocolate-olive colour. (And that would be me walking out the front door !) The waiting seat just outside the sales directors' office, far left and the waiting room, left, which was next to reception was a divine place to greet guests and have small casual meetings.

A gorgeous bathroom adorned with black and white framed photography. And below the super stylishly designed work stations.

That is where my passion first began and as I said I am still inspired by the unique publication that is VOGUE Living.
However I am awe-inspired every single day of my life by some of the most talented stylists and designers who blog. I love reading about their projects, businesses and what makes them tick. Some of the most talented people in this world are sitting behind their computers blogging away and I thank them for their inspiration.

Have a fabulous Friday.xx

Adam Levine's Hollywood Home

With an eclectic rock 'n' roll vibe Adam's Hollywood home is a masterpiece of design not only in structure but in styling. In true-muso style the home of Maroon Fives' front man is decked out in antique and modern pieces of furniture and fabulous art with deep colours of purple and wood-grain accenting each room. It seems a serene place, almost brooding with the opulent velvet curtains in the bedroom and charcoal colour painted walls. The exterior of the home is quite the opposite, bright whites with palm trees and a million dollar view over the swimming pool and the rolling Hollywood hills.

Recamier Love

The classic recamier adds a charming touch to a bedroom, lounge or dressing room (if you have a dressing room large enough!).

Positioned perfectly in the bedroom by House Beautiful.

Author Candace Bushnell had hers covered in a light rhubarb colour.

A gorgeous vintage specimen.
A modern take on a classic piece.

Loving the legs on this piece. It adds that extra something special.

Going Coastal

Coastalliving.com released their favourite coastal homes of 2011. They are stunning by the way. And given the Melbourne weather is still looking up, I thought I'd celebrate the warmth and look into a little coastal styling. Below are a few of my faves from their round-up.
