All hail the headboard

The bed head or headboard is one of my most favourite pieces of furniture to play with and change around. Its pretty easy and the changes you make dramatically effect the look and feel of your bedroom. The options are endless: fabric upholstered, wood (and I mean any old wood), painted, wall paper, room dividers, curtains or throws. It's all about what works for you and your style of home.

Old fence palings anyone? I love the way it creeps around onto the ceiling.

Fabric covered, easily done and easily changed when you want to redecorate. This is probably one of the simplest methods of creating a bespoke headboard. Cut out MDF pattern, attached foam or fill to get your cushy effect, attach fabric by using staples or studs on the back.

Again with the reclaimed wood yet in a much smaller form. The effect can work in many interior styles industrial, beach, eclectic.

I love the striped fabric used here. This one is fabric upholstered just like the first just a different shape and fabric colour and you have a whole new look.

A painted wooden room divider laid on its side. This is so effective, yet so simple.

This has to be my favourite of all. I can't tell if this is a separate vintage wooden carving or it it is actually part of the bed frame. Vintage wooden carvings can be found in various salvage or importing sale yards and they can be rested against the wall and you push your bed right up against it.

A bespoke shelving unit designed to fit inside the wall cavity and accommodate the bed. Brilliant storage solution and looks fantastic.

Brilliant upholstery with gorgeous stud detail.

Twin singles covered in traditional Mexican handwoven fabric.

These bedheads are painted on the wall and the beds are slid right up underneath them. Cute idea!

A vintage throw is pinned above the bed on the wall creating a very effective bedroom, yet it looks like it has just been casually thrown there on a lazy Sunday morning. This is an easy headboard method and changeable to your mood!
